Animal Kingdom is a fan favorite for all kinds of food types. They have some of the best allergy friendly foods of any of the parks. Not to mention the exotic African, Asian and Pandoran cuisine you find in various areas. Animal Kingdom is not without it’s hot dogs and nuggets, or Starbucks for that matter, but for every Pizzafari, there is an immersive and thematic cultural experience like the Harambe Market. Here is a small list of some of the must try Animal Kingdom food for your next Walt Disney World adventure.
Ahi Nachos at Yak and Yeti
One of the most popular table service restaurants at Animal Kingdom is Yak and Yeti. It’s right down the middle. Not too casual and not overly expensive. The ambiance here is very nice and the asian cuisine is unique but not scary. Something you have to try here is the Ahi Nachos. This is a sharable dish made for two, with sushi grade ahi, asian slaw, crispy wontons, wasabi aioli and sweet soy glaze.
Spiked Dole Whip
Dole Whips are an essential part of a Disney vacation. You can get them in Adventureland and Polynesian Village. Occasionally you’ll find them in Epcot, but the only other place where they always serve this frozen tropical treat is in the Africa section of Animal Kingdom. You can get it at Tamu Tamu Refreshments and they’ll even spike it for you with rum if you are at least 21.
Colossal Cinnamon Roll at Creature Comforts
Creature Comforts is Starbucks, but it’s a really big Starbucks with lots of good treats. The one it’s famous for is the Mickey Shaped Cinnamon Roll that can feed a family. After hitting an early ride at rope drop, while you wait for your Fastpass to kick in, stop by on your way through Discovery Island to your next destination and pick this one up for a quick breakfast.
Cheeseburger Pods at Satu’li Canteen
In Pandora, the meals are strange, customizable and delicious. It’s an excellent quick service location for a healthier meal. But you have to at least try the Cheeseburger pods at Satu’li Canteen. They are so strange looking, but they taste pretty much exactly like a McDonalds cheeseburger. Try it for yourself. Do you agree?
Baked Macaroni and Cheese at Eight Spoon Cafe
This is an awesome snack to pick up between meals if you still have a pretty big appetite. There are different versions of this including one with barbecue pork and one with shrimp and a sweet chili sauce. Of course the regular ol’ Mac and cheese is good, too.
Strawberry Shortcake Ice Cream Sandwich at Dino Bites
This is a delicious treat made with Haagen Daz Strawberry Ice Cream and two big sugar cookies. They are rolled in vanilla strawberry cake crumbs. This is an amazing treat in Dinoland USA that you have to try. Even if you don’t like Strawberries, there are other ice cream sandwich options to try as well.
Sanaa Bread Service
This is not in the Animal Kingdom Park, but it has to be mentioned. If you are looking for a good table service meal for dinner and you are at Animal Kingdom, I recommend reservations for Jiko or Sanaa. Jiko is fine dining and Sanaa is more moderate with views of the savannah where the animals graze. The bread service here is practically mandatory. There are several accompaniments to choose from and that are all fun to try.
